Hands-on leadership and stronger service processes are shaping a more consistent customer experience.
By Isaac Cornell, Operations Manager, ABC Companies, Grand Prairie, Texas
Since stepping into the operations leadership role at ABC Companies Grand Prairie service center on Nov. 1, 2025, I have focused on strengthening the customer experience and the processes behind it.
I joined ABC in 2019 and advanced through roles in repair, project coordination and collision operations. That hands-on experience taught me how work moves through the shop, how to build a strong team, and how each service decision can affect a customer’s fleet. As a fourth-generation member of the Cornell family, I take that responsibility personally. I stay close to the work, listen to customers, and hold our team to clear expectations throughout each service visit.
In mid-2026, Ryan Whiteaker returned to Grand Prairie as service foreman with more than 20 years of industry experience. During more than 17 years with ABC, Ryan held several technical and service leadership roles at this location. He knows the Grand Prairie operation and understands what technicians, the service office and customers need as work moves through the shop.
I have spoken directly with some of our customers about their experiences with our service center. Their feedback made it clear that we needed to improve several areas. Ryan and I are focused on applying that feedback throughout the service process.
Here is what customers can expect from Grand Prairie today:
A productive service visit begins with accurately understanding what the customer and vehicle are experiencing.
Our check-in process now includes:
If we identify another visible issue, we bring it to the customer’s attention so they can decide whether they want us to investigate it during the same visit.
Information from drivers and maintenance teams also gives our technicians valuable context. Details such as when a sound begins, what occurred before a warning light appeared or whether an issue develops under certain operating conditions can help the team determine where to begin.
Ryan helps carry that information from the service office into the shop, making sure technicians understand the original concern and relevant vehicle history before work moves forward.
Operators need service updates that help them make decisions. They should know what the team found, what needs to happen next, and whether their approval is required.
For longer repairs, our Grand Prairie team provides weekly progress updates. When an inspection identifies work beyond the original scope, we explain the finding and obtain customer approval before proceeding. If parts availability or another factor affects timing, we communicate what that means for the anticipated schedule.
This visibility helps fleet teams plan assignments, replacement vehicles, costs, and customer commitments while a vehicle is out of service.
Customers are beginning to recognize the changes. Early feedback has acknowledged improved communication and greater clarity around recommended work and associated costs. That response is encouraging, but consistently following these processes across every visit is what matters.
Completing a repair is not the final step.
Before releasing a vehicle, our team conducts a quality inspection against the approved estimate. We confirm that the authorized work was completed, verify that the listed parts were installed and functioning, and check the vehicle for warning lights or visible concerns.
Ryan helps oversee the connection between the work authorized by the customer, the repairs completed in the bay, and the final inspection.
At handoff, the customer should understand what was completed, the vehicle’s current status, and whether any follow-up is recommended. That information helps maintenance and operations teams make an informed decision about returning the vehicle to service.
An Invitation to Reconsider Grand Prairie
I recognize that some operators may know Grand Prairie from an earlier experience that did not meet their expectations. If that includes you, I understand that another opportunity must be earned through the service you receive.
We have changed how vehicles are checked in, how findings and approvals are communicated, how information moves between the service office and shop floor, and how completed work is verified before pickup. We will continue listening to customers and reinforcing those standards across our team.
Grand Prairie supports fleets throughout the Southwest with mechanical service, collision repair, paint capabilities, mobile service center and local parts support from a location convenient to the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.
Whether you are a current customer or have not worked with us recently, I invite you to speak with our team about your fleet and what you need from your next service visit. We welcome the opportunity to show you what has changed.
